Introduction
Berries and coloured fruits are rich sources of antioxidants - the red, blue and purple pigments include the important anthocyanins that play a protective role as free radical quenchers in the body.
AnthoBerry® ORAC 6000 has been designed to utilise the latest scientific research underlining the importance of antioxidants in the diet. The AnthoBerry® blend offers standardised, high ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value extracts of blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, cherry, prune, grape and blackcurrant - all specifically chosen to provide a powerful antioxidant combination.
Because the antioxidant value of foods varies markedly depending upon soil, climate, processing, freshness and other factors, standardisation is critical. Antioxidant potency is now measured by the ORAC value, which represents the total antioxidant value of foods without differentiating between individual antioxidants.

Frequently Asked Questions
What causes free radicals and what damage do they do?
To a certain extent, free radicals are just a part of being alive. It is estimated that every single cell in the body is attacked by a free radical about 10 000 times a day! Our bodies are constantly breaking down molecules to simpler ones (e.g. carbohydrates in food to simple sugars for fuel) and building bigger molecules (e.g. using amino acids to make protein). These are the processes of metabolism, and involve energy production. Most of the time energy production requires oxygen; and this naturally produces a great deal of free radicals.
As we age the number of free radicals we naturally produce increases. Other factors that lead to high levels of free radicals are smoking tobacco, physical and emotional stress, direct sunlight, radiation, heavy metals, pollution and foods high in fats and sugar.
Free radicals are unstable oxygen atoms, caused by one of the oxygen atom’s electrons being pulled away. These unstable free radicals do everything they can to get another electron and become stable again. The problem is that they will rip away an electron from a normal cell in the body and cause serious damage. So, without adequate antioxidant support, free radicals may damage and destroy healthy cells.
What are antioxidants and how much do I need?
Antioxidants are substances that prevent or slow the oxidation process caused by free radicals. Antioxidants in most cases neutralise the free radical by providing an electron so that the free radical can become a stable oxygen molecule once again. While our bodies produce certain antioxidants, most of the necessary antioxidants must come from our diet. Fruits and vegetables contain the most antioxidants however when we process them, and depending on soil and growing conditions as well as the age of the fruit, many of the antioxidants will have been removed or lost. So, even eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables can’t guarantee you getting enough antioxidants.
Your requirements for antioxidants depend upon your lifestyle practices. Exposure to air pollution, radiation, toxic metals, chemicals, emotional and physical stress, and certain dietary elements determines your level of free radical stress. A healthy diet combined with a broad spectrum of antioxidants in supplemental form will help you combat free radical stress. Current guidelines recommending five serves of fruits and vegetables daily provides approximately 1650 ORAC units. Research suggests that there is value in increasing our fruits and vegetables intake to 10-12 serves to provide 3000-4000 ORAC units daily.7

- AnthoBerry® ORAC 6000 may be added to IsoWhey Complete™ French Vanilla for a delicious Berries Delight smoothie.
- ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity, and is a measure of the antioxidant capacity of foods.
- Anthocyanins and anthocyanidins are antioxidants that are responsible for the red, blue and purple pigments in berries.
- AnthoBerry® ORAC 6000 provides a total antioxidant value of 6000 ORAC units per day - that’s equivalent to more than 10 serves of fruits and vegetables in a convenient, more economical, delicious powder.
